EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

As a long standing ESTRO Gold Corporate Member, Orfit Industries (Belgium) is proud to take part in the Anniversary Congress of the leading European organisation dedicated to therapeutic radiology and oncology.  For two decades now, Orfit Industries has been contributing to the optimisation of cancer treatment. With its participation to the ESTRO Conference and exhibition Orfit wants to convey a clear message: in a spirit of dialogue with the medical profession, the company is determined to go on with the improvement of existing techniques and products keeping up with the newest insights in radiation oncology.

With its experience in manufacturing and supply of medical devices and as a world leader in the design and manufacturing of patient immobilization systems, Orfit has developed a wide range of thermoplastic masks ensuring both high precision immobilization and maximum patient comfort.

• In order to meet the demands for even higher accuracy in new cancer treatment techniques such as IGRT (image-guided radio-therapy), Orfit Industries now presents its growing range of Hybrid Masks.  These reinforced thermoplastic masks offer the ease of use of the normal thermoplastic masks but now with an unparalleled horizontal stability and fixation force.

After the creation of a range of High Precision Head Supports, Orfit launched the Individual Head Support, a specially designed vacuum bag to be attached to the head support and the underlying base plate in a very stable and reproducible manner, eliminating unwanted shifts in the neck area.

• Thanks to multiple contacts with the medical world, the Orfit management has become acutely aware of the problem of childhood cancer. Oncologists and paediatricians are growing increasingly weary of surgical anaesthesia for children and adolescents suffering from cancer and turn to radiotherapy as a substitute.   Orfit Industries has taken the lead in the development of a new range of appropriate hybrid masks and immobilization devices to be applied in paediatric oncology.

• Orfit’s AIO Solution has proved to be very successful and has become one of the main features of the Orfit product range. The AIO Solution facilitates and refines treatments with a head and neck immobilization system, lung board, breast board, abdominal system and belly and pelvic board in one single product. It is a truly All-in-One system, as with one base plate and different sets of cushions and thermoplastic masks, all parts of the body are positioned and immobilised in a comfortable, exact and reproducible way. The AIO makes treatment easier and more effective, all the more so now that these cutting-edge immobilization techniques allow for IMRT and IGRT procedures in almost any anatomical location, including breast and lungs.    

• In order to ensure optimal indexation of knee and legs during radiotherapy, Orfit Industries is currently developing a new knee support which indexes precisely into the Orfit High Precision Base Plate. This new device will be extremely helpful in radiotherapy treatment of the pelvic area (for cervical, prostate, rectal or colon cancer).
