ORFIT HYBRID MASK

Hybrid Pre-cuts ensure good Patient Positioning and Immobilization

Precision has always been and will continue to be the main drive in Radiation Oncology to improve the existing techniques and to adopt changes in the prevailing treatment routines. It is this search for improvement of the overall precision of cancer treatment that has led to the introduction of new techniques such as IGRT, Adaptive RT, real time robotic techniques etc. and has also led to a better understanding of the importance of an accurate and reproducible patient positioning.

The regular imaging that these new techniques rely on clearly shows that it is very hard to keep a patient immobilized in an identical position for each fraction (or treatment session). It also reveals that important shifts may occur during one and the same fraction.

Full and continuous control over the position of the target during the whole treatment can only be achieved by means of a good patient positioning and immobilization system. Too often, standard immobilization devices do not deliver the precision and reproducibility required for this type of treatment as they leave too much room for the patient to move.

At the request of the IGRT and ART customers, Orfit Industries has created a range of Hybrid Masks with the clear ambition to overcome any positioning and immobilisation problems. These thermoplastic masks are reinforced and offer the same ease of use as standard thermoplastic masks. On top of that they result in an unparalleled horizontal stability and fixation force, ensuring good immobilization and positioning, even for the tallest, broad-shouldered patients. The latter are immobilized with large size masks equipped with a reinforced circular rim and chinstrap offering full control of the position of the head and the shoulders of the patient. Moreover, the new laser-welded winged profiles on Orfit Raycast High Precision masks ensure easy handling for the staff when putting the masks on and off patients and offer an even better and stable fixation of the masks to the base plates.

The range of the new Hybrid pre-cuts consists of a 3-point head only pre-cut and a 5-point head, neck and shoulder pre-cut. It is now completed with a 4-point head and neck pre-cut for use on the Orfit Industries Raycast High Precision hardware. For customers who cannot rely on Orfit multipoint hardware, Orfit Industries also offers a 3-point and a 5-point Hybrid pre-cut with profiles with push-pins (not for U-shaped frames).
