Orfit Industries develops and produces thermoplastic materials for patient immobilization and designs hardware for positioning and fixation of radiation oncology patients.

The patient has to be kept still, so that therapeutic beams can reach the target in a precise and reproducible way without affecting too much healthy tissue.  

With products from Orfit Industries it is now possible to keep a patient immobilized with a potential movement of less than1.5 millimetres. The Orfit immobilization systems are key to achieving a high quality radiation therapy, allowing for a perfect balance between patient comfort and restriction of movement.

The Efficast^® high precision masks for head, neck and shoulders feature a unique, highly engineered thermoplastic anchored with multiple, independent fixation points.  Efficast®, one of Orfit Industries’ most successful products, provides major advantages of vital importance to users and patients, such as

 

                                     Precision: sub2 mm precision and reproducibility of the immobilization while being thinner than other masks routinely used in radiation oncology. Thinner Efficast® enables close contouring to the patients’ anatomy and an excellent skin sparing effect;

                                     Comfort: patient comfort: during moulding the material contracts uniformly to avoid pressure points. A special coating prevents the mask from adhering to the skin or hair;

                                     Lower-temperature moulding:  the Efficast® masks can be softened in warm water, avoiding discomfort to the therapist and the patient during the moulding and setting process. The mask can easily be remoulded when during the treatment period the patient’s volume has decreased or increased.

                                     Hygiene: Efficast® masks are treated with an antibacterial non-stick coating that prevents bacterial growth on the mask and cross contamination in the department.

The reproducibility and stability of patient positioning being crucially important for a precise radiation therapy treatment, the AIO SOLUTION^®, with the help of a base plate and different sets of cushions and thermoplastic masks all developed by Orfit Industries, is apparently highly appreciated by the customers. This is an all-in-one system with a head and neck immobilization system, lung board, breast board, abdominal system and belly and pelvic board in one single product.

The base-plate designed by Orfit Industries  (made of low density carbon) is perfectly compatible with all Orfit products and equipped with mask fixation slots for Efficast^® masks.

A combination of the AIO hardware with Efficast^® thermoplastic masks warrants head and upper torso immobilisation. 

These unique features, in combination with Orfit Industries’ head rests with cranial stop and L-shaped profiles that fix the masks in the High Precision Hardware, give the customer the possibility of choosing the best mask for his/her patient.

From the wide array of splinting materials, the therapist has a choice for any type of splint, large and small: knuckle benders, post-operative dynamic and easily adjustable splints, a complete immobilization system for patients suffering from osteoporosis, back complaints and arthritis, not to mention back bracing and ankle supports.

All very light weight, washable, comfortable and aesthetic. These products are available in a wide range of sizes and thicknesses, either in sheets or pre-cut forms, in soft and stiff versions and have been treated with an antibacterial, non-stick coating.  All materials used are environmentally friendly, recyclable and biodegradable.

ORTHOTICS & PROSTHETICS

 

 

Both High Temperature Thermoplastic and Low Temperature Thermoplastic materials are used in orthotic components as braces for the extremities and the back, and in prosthetic components as stump sockets. The ORFITRANS® product range consists of 4 semi-transparent materials. In different degrees of stiffness or softness that are suitable for the production of prosthetic stump sockets. (on right in picture). It is up to the orthopaedic technician to select the most suitable material for the application.

 

Cervical collar

TECNOFIT® is an “immediate fitting” low melting temperature thermoplastic material that was developed by ORFIT Industries with special attention to the needs of orthotists and their patients. TECNOFIT® has proved to be highly efficient for cervical collars, orthotics for upper and lower limbs (cfr. upper picture on the left) and for support and immobilization body jackets.
