The week of June 5-11, 2017 has been designated as Hand Therapy Week by the American Society of Hand Therapy to help promote the profession and support the hand therapists who work hard to improve their clients’ daily lives.
Here are some creative ways to celebrate Hand Therapy Awareness Week in your clinic!
Create a poster in the clinic informing all staff and clients that the week of June 5-11, 2017 has been designated “Hand Therapy Awareness Week!” and invite everyone to participate in games and activities.
Challenge your fellow colleagues in a variety of hand therapy evaluations. Check out who has the strongest grip and pinch strength in the office or who has the quickest dexterity in the Finger Dexterity Text. Are your fellow doctors, nurses, and office staff up for the task?
Play games in the clinic that incorporate key hand functions such as pinch, grip and wrist mobility. Check out who has the best aim or who can do tricks with a yoyo. Teach Origami to all clients and their family members and provide colorful paper and instruction sheets. Bake cookies in the shape of hands and let everyone decorate them!
Make a colorful wall poster of a tree and let all participants in your Hand Therapy festivities post their names on little “hand” leaves.
Sponsor a Hand Therapy Week poster contest and have employees’ children and local schools participate. Not only will you get great designs you can display, you’ll educate children at an early age on the value of hand therapy.
Be sure all therapists are aware of Hand Therapy Week. Encourage them to suggest ways to observe it. Visit a local college or university. Reach out to students interested in health sciences to share information about the hand therapy specialty. Record a Hand Therapy Week message on the clinic answering machine and recognize your hard-working hand therapists with a certificate of appreciation.
