The AIO Solution 3.0 Allows for a Better Workflow at Aurora BayCare

An interview with Anna Schneider, Radiation Therapist II, at Aurora BayCare Medical Center.

October 25, 2024 – We sat down with Anna Schneider, a radiation therapist at Aurora BayCare in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Anna has been a therapist for about 11 years now and has been using Orfit solutions at Aurora BayCare since about 2017. The center has 2 Varian-Truebeam linear accelerators with integrated imaging and they use The AIO Solution 3.0 with both of them.

What types of cases and treatments are best suited to The AIO Solution 3.0?

We love to use the Orfit system for everything. Anything from head and neck, breast patients, pelvises, SBRTs. It really does work great for everything. Anything that you have used a vacuum bag for, any kind of cradle, we like to use the AIO Solution 3.0 now because we do not have to worry about the vacuum bags breaking on us.

Describe your setups before and after implementing The AIO Solution 3.0.

Before we had Orfit, we would use wing boards and vacuum bags. Now that we have the AIO board, we do not have to use any of that – or store any of that here. One of the issues we had with the vacuum bags was that they would deflate, and then that would delay patient care. We would have to bring the patient back and get re-simmed.

With the Orfit system we do not have to worry about that. We also use the Orfit system for the SBRTs, so we do not have to worry about getting the bag or the suction perfect because the mask that we use for abdomen compression – or chest compression – does not ever break on us.

What do you like best about The AIO Solution 3.0?

There are so many things that I love about the AIO board. One, you can switch between patients quickly. We have 15-minute time slots for our patients, so to switch out a cradle, if somebody comes ahead of someone else, is a little more difficult, and then you must find the cradle. What I like about the all-in-one board is that you only have a few pieces that you might have to switch out, and it is ready by the time that patient walks into the room.

Also, storage. We don’t have to store all of those vacuum bags with patient names on them, and we don’t have to ensure they’re divided properly so there’s no cross-contamination.

Can you share some tips and tricks for others who are getting started with The AIO Solution 3.0?

We ordered the prone breast board and just used it the other day. The doctor and the therapists loved how the patient set up. That is a game changer for us. We were not aware for the longest time that we could bill for the board, and that was also a game changer for us.

I think the Orfit prone belly board is going to be huge for us too. We have the old belly board that is super thick, and you can only do half arcs with it because you cannot treat it through the belly board itself. This new Orfit board, I think, will allow us to do one bigger arc and be able to treat through it, and we will not have table clearance. I am excited for our first belly board patient.

When the AIO board arrived, we were skeptical. It is hard to change, but we live in this field where we must change. When we first got it, we had recipe cards illustrating all the setups, and we made it worse than it had to be. Now, all our sister sites are talking about getting the AIO board, and we tell them, “Just give it three months and you’re going to love it.”
