Trigeminal neuralgia (Tri-Gem) is a debilitating condition often treated with radiosurgery. At AdventHealth’s Rocky Mountain Region, clinicians are using Orfit’s immobilization solutions to deliver precise and comfortable treatment experiences for patients undergoing this specialized care.
Meredith Gall, Radiation Oncology Manager, explained how Orfit’s three-point hybrid open-face mask with a small aperture has become a favorite tool in their practice. “This mask lets us secure the patient’s forehead and chin while keeping the eyes, nose, and mouth exposed,” she shared. “It’s so much more comfortable than the older, closed-face masks we used to use—and it helps ease the anxiety patients may feel during treatment.”
The mask’s thin, pliable material also enhances both comfort and flexibility. “It molds like butter,” Gall said, “and if we need to restart, we can reheat and reuse it without waste.” This adaptability has proven especially valuable when working with high-dose treatments where immobilization precision is critical.
Before discovering Orfit, the team used more rigid masks from other vendors, but they lacked the comfort and versatility Orfit provides. “With Orfit’s AIO Solution 3.0, the components work together seamlessly,” Gall noted. “It’s like a LEGO set—you can build up or down to match each patient’s anatomy.”
AdventHealth treats Tri-Gem patients using a combination of Philips Big Bore CTs and Varian TrueBeam systems, with additional treatments delivered via ZAP-X technology at their Littleton, CO site.
Gall’s advice for clinics adopting Orfit for Tri-Gem: focus on neutral head positioning and stick with Orfit’s integrated AIO Solution for a streamlined setup. “It’s all about patient comfort and reproducibility,” she said. “When those align, treatment becomes flawless.”
