TBI STEP

Patient Rotation with Precision and Efficiency

What if you could reposition patients from Head First to Feet First in less than 15 seconds?

The TBI STEP system is a rotatable tabletop that allows clinicians to overcome the limitations of standard Linac couch shifts by enabling a seamless 180° rotation of the patient—from head-first supine (HFS) to feet-first supine (FFS)—within seconds and without the need for patient repositioning.

The rotatable tabletop consists completely of carbon fiber and attaches directly to the original Linac couch top, making setup fast and straightforward.

VMAT-TBI techniques typically require patients to be repositioned due to the Linac’s limited cranial-caudal couch shift range. With TBI STEP, patient rotation becomes effortless, allowing clinicians to use standard positioning devices while achieving consistent, reproducible alignment and optimal dose delivery across the full treatment volume.

No Shifting. No Tilting. Just Care.

When is TBI STEP relevant?

Total Body Irradiation: Achieve homogeneous dose distribution and protect healthy tissue and OARs.

Distant Metastases: Swift HFS-to-FFS rotation improves patient comfort while reducing workflow inefficiencies.

Palliative Patients: On-table rotation enhances patient comfort, optimizes workflow, and improves staff efficiency.

This rotating couch top system is designed to protect both patients and clinicians by eliminating the need for manual lifting, tilting, or physically rotating. By enabling smooth, controlled (re)positioning with minimal physical effort, the system reduces risk, safeguards staff wellbeing, and ensures patients are treated with maximum comfort and safety.

Key
Benefits

  • Enhanced safety for everybody involved — reducing manual handling, eliminating lifting and tilting, and protecting both patients and clinical staff throughout the entire treatment process
  • Homogeneous dose distribution over the entire PTV using VMAT-technology
  • Excellent protection of healthy tissue and OARs without the use of external shields
  • No active participation of the patient from HFS to FFS needed
  • Simple rotation of the TBI STEP in a few seconds by means of hand grips
  • Minimization of unexpected patient movement through use of conventional positioning devices
  • Precise and reproducible positioning of the patient
  • Elimination of incorrect isocenter shifts
  • Avoidance of gantry-couch collision by using permitted isocentric coordinates
