Thermoplastics for Radiation Therapy

Over 30 Years of Material Innovation for Reliable and Comfortable Immobilization

With more than 30 years of expertise in thermoplastic development, Orfit delivers high-performance materials engineered for accuracy, patient comfort, and reproducibility. Our thermoplastics are trusted worldwide for their low shrinkage, non-stick properties, and outstanding consistency, ensuring optimal immobilization across all treatment setups.

Our engineering and production capabilities with proprietary thermoplastic formulations result in the best mask materials available. Stretch and shrinkage properties are always the same and assure a reliable mask molding technique, resulting in a perfect fit around the patient’s anatomy and a high degree of patient comfort.

Available in a variety of shapes, perforation types, and activation options, our material range supports a wide spectrum of radiation therapy techniques — from routine immobilization to advanced stereotactic applications.

Our range includes Efficast, Nanor, and U-Plast, each tailored to meet different clinical needs, workflows, and mask systems.

Key
Benefits

  • Consistent quality for precise, reproducible results
  • Non-stick surface (no hair or skin sticking)
  • Low shrinkage to maintain shape and fit
  • Remouldable with high elastic memory
  • X-ray translucent and easy to work with
  • Compatible with standard hot water baths or ovens

Thermoplastic Properties

Low activation temperature (65°C – 149°F):

  • No risk of skin burning for the user.
  • Can be moulded directly on the patient.
  • Does not become too soft or stretchy when overheated.
  • Can be activated in hot water or oven.
  • No special equipment necessary.
  • Short cooling time still allowing enough time for a correct moulding.
  • Cools down and hardens in a few minutes.

Non-stick coating:

  • For easy handling of the fixation mask during the moulding.
  • No risk of accidental bonding.
  • The material can be applied on the skin without moistening or lotioning.
  • No need to use silicone spray to prevent sticking.
  • When stuck to itself or to accessories, it can be pulled apart easily.
  • High comfort for the patient.

High mouldability:

  • Allows three-dimensional moulding with comfort and ease for both patient and user.
  • Ensures high precision mask making.

High elastic memory:

  • Remouldable: correction or complete remoulding possible in case of error or changes in the anatomy of the patient.

Low shrinkage:

  • Keeps shape and size determined by the user during the moulding.
  • No risk for excessive pressure or compression.

X-ray translucent:

  • Low attenuation.

Low activation temperature (65°C – 149°F):

  • No risk of skin burning for the user.
  • Can be moulded directly on the patient.
  • Does not become too soft or stretchy when overheated.
  • Can be activated in hot water.
  • No special equipment necessary.
  • Short cooling time while still allowing enough time for a correct moulding.
  • Cools down and hardens in a few minutes.

Nano materials:

  • Patented nano-based technology.
  • Very thin composite thermoplastic materials with high strength.
  • Thinner than standard masks.

Reduced thickness:

  • Due to nano technology, you can reduce your mask thickness.
  • Less transport costs.
  • More comfort for the patient.

Non-stick coating:

  • For easy handling of the fixation mask during the moulding.
  • No risk of accidental bonding.
  • The material can be applied on the skin without moistening, lotioning or use of a stockinet.
  • No need to use silicone spray to prevent sticking.
  • When stuck to itself or to accessories, it can be pulled apart easily.
  • High comfort for the patient.

High mouldability:

  • Allows three-dimensional moulding of the patient contours with comfort and ease for both patient and user.
  • Ensures high precision mask making.

Elastic memory:

  • Remouldable: correction possible in case of error or changes in the anatomy of the patient.

Low shrinkage:

  • Keeps shape and size determined by the user during the moulding.
  • No risk for excessive pressure or compression.

X-ray translucent:

  • Low attenuation, certainly in combination with the reduced thickness of the pre-cuts.
