Using Orfitrans for 5 Different O&P Applications
Get inspired by these 5 great Orfitrans uses by ‘Titan O&P Fabrications’
Titan O&P Fabrications, based in Pflugerville (Texas, USA), is a longtime user of Orfitrans materials, our product range of high melting temperature thermoplastic materials. These materials are mainly used for the production of external orthoses and prosthetic sockets.
In this post, we highlight 5 different cases where Titan O&P uses Orfitrans for an O&P application.
1) Test Socket
This is a test socket, made from Orfitrans Stiff 12 mm. Orfitrans Stiff is a very rigid, transparent material that will not break, crack or shatter when dropped, making it an excellent choice for the fabrication of a test socket.
2) Definitive Socket with an Inner Socket (Drape Formed)
These sockets are definitive carbon sockets that have flexible Orfitrans liners. These liners are made from Orfitrans Excel 4 mm and those are drape-formed. The socket on the left is an AK (above knee) socket, while the socket on the right is a BK (below knee) socket.
Titan O&P Fabrications also does a large variety of graphics on our prosthetic sockets.
3) Definitive Socket with an Inner Socket (Blister Formed)
This is another definitive socket, where Orfitrans Excel is blister- (or bubble-) formed. For bubble-forming, a thicker material is needed than in the previous case where Orfitrans is merely used as a liner – in this case, Orfitrans Excel 12 mm is used.
Using specific lay-ups on their carbon fiber sockets, Titan can add more flexibility to specific areas to incorporate options such as the BOA closure system on the above AK socket.
4) Hip Socket
This carbon hip socket is lined with Orfitrans Excel 5 mm which was drape formed. The flexible liner in the hip socket will offer the patient more comfort and control of the device.
5) Ankle Foot Orthosis
Orfitrans is not only used for prosthetics. It is also a great material to fabricate an AFO (Ankle Foot Orthosis). In the AFO that Titan O&P made, Orfitrans Excel 4 mm was used for the inner boot of the orthosis.
Other Orfitrans materials
Depending on your personal preferences, we also offer 2 different Orfitrans materials: Orfitrans Extra Soft and Orfitrans Extra Soft Silicone. These materials are especially used for prosthetic sockets and are the perfect choice when looking for a more flexible material with easier donning and doffing properties.
